AFRICOM SPONSORS MEDIA AWARDS
Africom this year sponsored, for the third year running the
annual Zimbabwe Union of Journalists media awards. The awards
were presented at a dinner held at the Meikles Hotel on 29
October 2004.
Africom sponsored the Information Communication Technology
reporter of the year category. First prize was $2 million
and a trophy, $1 million for the first runner up and $500
000 for the second runner up. The ICT reporter of the year
(combined electronic and print) was Felix Njini from the Financial
gazette who walked away with $2m and a trophy, the first runner
up was Thomas Madondoro also from Financial gazette and the
second runner up was Orirando Manuere from Sunday News.
More than 40 journalists from different sectors were honored
for their excellent coverage in their different areas of specialization.
They were various categories sponsored separately by companies
and these included the ICT reporter of the year, Sports reporter,
Financial reporter of the year, Environmental reporter, Human
rights reporter of the year to name a few. The theme of the
gala was 'Write right'.
